It would be fun to have a little race car and I know what you mean about horsepower/better MPG its hard for me to stay out of the throttle. I have been modifying a diesel truck its a big world for mods with a diesel I know its not fast like a camero or the little fieroes everyone builds up but its fairly quick but mostly unbelivable torque it will burn a 35 inch tire no problem but still its diffrent kinda power than your guys cars that has lope to it. I would like to just get the berretta back on the road asap so if i could just get the revised gaskets that would be great. Ya im probably missing a sticky somewhere on mods/problems Ill check the site out. But one more question the last LIM that I did one this car was part of a kit from felpro and it included the head gasket as well, so is this head gasket ok or has there been changes to the head gasket as well if im that close it would probably only be a couple more hours of work for me just getting the exhaust manifolds off if need be. It does only have 35000 on the head gasket thats in it. its not overheating FWIW . But if felpro headgaskets are problematic now would be the time to change it out what do you guys think. If it helps its gm first design with ball and pivot rocker arms without the valve guides on the intake gasket thanks for the help

i'm not sure what sensor issues your talking about, the TB will be a plug and play, MAP sensor has a braket and is the same plug, the coolant passage for the heater core Does Change, But can simply be modified to work with the old push connect fitting by only tapping the hole to the same size as the old fitting, it is already pre drilled to the reccomended tap drill size, i did this on my 95 grand am when i swapped motors from a 99, everything should be a simple plug and play if the heads are changed. The injectors change from 19lb to 22lb if i have read correctly about that on a previous thread, and can use the old injector harness, the only thing that might be different is the coolant sensor, which should be a simple solution if it changes. That i dont remember.
If i'm wrong about any of this feel free to correct me. Brad, you would know better than i do, but i really dont recall any sensor differences now that i think about it.

Coolant temp sensor is one of them, as the newer heads don't have the spot for the gauge sensor. EGR is the other that comes to mind, as an adapter will be needed to use the 95 EGR on a newer plenum.
Felpro head gaskets don't have any issues, so I would just look to replace from the lower intake gaskets up.-Brad-

my 95' beretta had stamped rockers so I bet his does too .
If you want your car to breathe more, you can do just a intake manifold swap. If i remember right 97 vans with the 3400 have the same threaded fitting as the 3100. You will have to do an egr adapater for the newer intakes like brad said. You will have to grind the lower intake so it has clearance for the stamped rockers or you can do a head swap with the 3400 heads.
Personally if you want an easy repair and not have to mess around with anything, just replace the LIM gaskets with the metal felpro ones (and the other gaskets and o-rings of course) and bolt it back together. You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

The coolant sensor on the rear head can be relocated to either the front or rear drain plug on the block with some extra wire. I recommend using some sort of thread extension in those spots as I apparantly ruined mine since the tip was making contact with the outer cylinder wall before the threads were tight.1995 Grand Am SE

well its all out bad lim again and i did have high temp silicone on the bolts the plastic craked and the rubber was even worn out.that felpro remake of the stock was the worst.35000mi, just got the metal lim gasket thats a night and day diff alot more sealing surface and no more movement. The kit I got was not compleate I also need to get some injector o-ring. hopefully by sunday I will have it going again its alot faster the second time around thanks for all the imput on this car I shure do feel better about it now you guys have me putting in the right parts
I have a 2004 old alero 3400 it looks to be built the same just a bigger intake, probably bigger all the way around. the diffrent sensors you mention, egr is diifrent on the 04vs the 95 . I had such good luck with the berretta and this 3400 moter is similair made bigger , and after I saw the roller rockers I thought it must be better built than the 95 and its been a great car a few obdII codes nothing big 100,000mi . Hopefully gm was past the lim problems with the 04

well I got it all back up and running in a snow blizzard with a tarp over the hood. Just need to clean out the garage. I did notice that when I took off the oil filler cap that it did not have oil getting blown around in the valve covers like it did before, oil was blowing all around inside the valve covers even when the last LIM was new. So it seams that this new metal gasket seals alot better right from the start. Wish that I would have found this site before the last LIM replacement. I did however read somewhere that the center bolts for the LIM need to be fully torqued before you put in the corner bolts and torque them. It was weird it said the same torque/seq as the link bszopi referred me to but then it said caution manufacture recomends the center bolts be fully torqued before the diagonal bolts to assure proper sealing. So thats how I did it center bolts first, and so far it seams to be sealed alot better than before. Thanks for all the imput guys
