  • Serious issue with my 2.8 :(

I usually dont post here in the maintenance section as my dad and I are both experienced mechanics, but something has been happening to my blazer in the past few days that is really bothering me.

A few days ago I was giving it a hard run after messing with the (5.7) TB's throttle butterfies as they tend to get stuck slightly and gave it a high idle. I beveled the edges a little and problem solved. After recalibrating the TPS to .48v @ idle all was good.

Next morning I fired it up like usual, waited 3-5 minutes to give it a warm up, and when I drive off I heard a valve ticking in the right cylinder bank!
It used to have a very slight tick in the left bank, but the new tick isnt very quiet.

There is no power loss, but the truck is now detonating when given higher throttle at low rpm's. This only happens when its under running temps, like when its been sitting 20-30 minutes.

After it warms up the tick and the detonation issues go away.
    Any hunches?

Adjust the TPS to a higher value at idle. Say around .6 See if the issue changes

I will do that first thing tomorrow.
      Thanks for the advice.

I have noticed it harldy ever detonates when the tps is over .5, but fuel economy goes down then.
Its a delicate balance I TELL YA!

Lol. I will post my result.
Any guesses on the valve tick?
Its not as bad as it was, but still very annoying
