  • Unknown sensor

Well, I am working on changing my head gaskets on my 3.4L Firebird and I noticed this sensor and I have no idea what it is and if this is broken or not. It's right next to the oil filter so I'm guessing oil pressure maybe? Anyways here's a picture of the wiring harness thing and the sensor. Let me know if you guys know what it is and if that's broken or if it just pushes back on. It doesn't seem to lock in place at all or anything so I have no idea.

Also, the sensor on the front of the driveside head, is that the water temp sensor? I think it is, but I'm not positive.

That looks like a broken oil pressure sending unit in pic 2.

Any sensor in a head is normally a temp sensor. IIRC, the one in the LIM is for the computer and the one in the head is for your dash gauge.

Is that what the wiring harness in the first picture goes to? Or what does that goto? Look familiar at all?

I can't tell clearly by the pic, but on the Advance page, they do show the back of the sending unit so you can see what the connector looks like.

That sender is also ~$20 and I wouldn't run that engine until it's replaced/that hole is plugged. If you do, it's liable to shoot all of your oil on the ground, and I've got some carnage in the garage from a 4.3 Jimmy 4x4 that ran without oil... Let's just say one of the rods/rod caps now looks more like a door handle.

Yea, I'm pretty positive that's what it is. It didn't seem like it had a way to connect to anything so that's probably why. It broke right at that red line. That's my guess. I'll look at it again the next time I goto work on it.
