WUBI works great. at least it did for me for as long as i had Ubuntu and Kubuntu on my laptop. it even removes it all cleanly if necessary.

WINE won't run the programs I need though (I've been running Ubuntu for 2 yrs now, but have a laptop w/ Win 7 installed), such as AutoCAD.

Back on topic: So I had a little time to look at my short block today. Decided to clean the crowns of the pistons and run the m through their range of motion to get a good idea of the cylinders' condition. The #1 & #2 pistons were considerably looser in their bores than the rest of them. I decided to pull the oil pan and take a closer look. The #1 & #2 pistons both had broken top rings. The #3 rod bearing was in the process of failing. The oil pickup was about 75-80% clogged with RTV from a very messy intake manifold gasket replacement. I suspect they were getting real low oil pressure readings and poor fuel economy from this car before they decided to scrap it. I was able to hone the ridges at the top of the cylinders down, so I'm trying to decide whether to try and find some 10 over rings and file the ends (if necessary) to get them to fit or just pick up a set of standard rings and check the end gaps to see if they are within spec. I had always planned to do the bottom end, so that will continue as planned. Parts list so far

        Valve stem seal kit
        Rings
        Main Bearings
        Rod Bearings
        Rear main seal
        Oil pump
Gasket set - upper and lower
        Header flanges
        Tubing to make headers
        Collectors
Motor mounts to fit engine in MGB
        Modified Drive shaft

If anyone has any of these things laying around unused and would like to convert them to cash PM me with your price and shipping to 37849, Tennessee

Remember when you do the stem seals to pick up VITON seals for the intake AND exhaust and ditch the stock oil shields under the valve spring retainers. Do yourself a favor and install a new cam and springs. COMP cams sells 3 K kits which will outfit you with all the parts you need for a valvetrain overhaul. Also you can get their Magnum 1.6 Rockers in a kit with pushrods.
