I have either a head gasket leak or a cracked head gasket(wont know till next week sometime) im currently in disassembly stage and just looking to see if there is anything that would be recommended to be replaced in a 3400 engine with 166k miles. Lifters? pushrods? rockers? Or should i keep it stock to not stress the bottom end. I want to up the performance of the 3400, i have but im aware that theres not much aftermarket available for that particular motor. Unless you plan on spending 3k on a ground up engine rebuild for mediocre hp gains. I would like to start with a pcm tune. What is the best bang for your buck on that...

Thats far less than 3k
Stock 3400 it would only get a 15.3
I wouldn't call that mediocre gains.
Research this website, there is a decent amount of aftermarket now thanks to Ben.

Do the work yourself and do it all but the headers (just port them a small bit) and you can do it for half that.
While your in the engine there are any number of tricks you can do to make the engine run more efficiently for not much cost.
You don't need to spend massive cash to get more power.
Everything that applies to every other engine applies to these.
There are alot of upgrade parts to be pulled from other vehicles for cheap or free.
And I wouldn't start with a pcm tune,I would end with one.
