  • Not enough 3500 owners, replacing valve cover

is there an easy way to replace the valve cover without having to pull the UIM and LIM? i cant get the gasket to stay in place while i try to put the valve cover back on. i was thinking adding some RTV and letting it cure to hold the gasket in place when i replace the valve cover. yay or nay?

crap, that topic did not come out write. thats what i get for writting this when im half asleep

ENGINE HAS INTERNAL DAMAGE. THIS MOTOR WILL BE TAKEN OUT OF THE FIERO AND REPAIRED IN TIME. UNTIL THEN, A L67 WILL RESIDE IN ITS PLACE

Valve cover is the same as a 3100 and 3400 and VVT 3500/3900 too.

If you are re-using the gasket, it might have swelled. I've reused the original one from GM with no trouble many times before until I got new ones in a kit then I figured why not.

But yeah they swell and are too long, but you just push them in and they will go... Don't need to remove UIM or LIM... In fact you put the valve covers on after the LIM...

Push the gasket into the valve cover, put some RTV in the corners where the head and LIM meet where the corner notch of the valve cover goes in there, and bolt it down and let it cure.

just get some new ones, they are cheap.

the GM ones swell so bad that it gets nearly impossible to get them back in.

PUSH new gasket into place on Cover, do not press and run your finger along to seat it.

It will stretch and end up being to long and popping out lol

They are pre-molded silicone . . . if there is any oil in the gasket groove at all, they won't stay either. It's a tight design, but sometimes the simplest s**t can just drive you right up the wall without a Jeep . . . lol
