Try different makes/models when doing your search. have you checked out 3500/3900's? A little more work/parts to get them going, but have to look at the big picture.

I have also heard that some of these cars have been found going through auctions across country from where they were turned in at! Apparently there was a loop hole that allowed a dealer to buy the car and if it was worth more than the $4500 they were paying they could re-sell it!!!
What a scam!!

When I contact a salvage yard I just ask for a 3100 - 3400 engine from 1995-1998 (I was told that some changes where made in 1999 and some sensors would not work - is this true??)
What years should I look for?
Heck if I land a good deal on something bigger I'll build that up and put it in my GT!! Or what would it do in a light weight dragster???? with a Hilborn style Fuel Injection Velocity Stacks!!!! Or GMC BLower!!! :-)

Hey, not sure if this helps. I have a 3400 block that I pulled the heads off of to do my top end swap. The engine was the victim of the famous LIM gasket fail. The oil is pretty sludgy, so I'm not sure what shape the bearings are in, but I'm in Cleveland and if you want it, it's free. PM if you're interested.
