  • Correct ICM for 89 firebird 2.8

    I read somewhere else that usually when buying an ICM, you'll get one that fits and works, but it's not really the right one.

    Are there some numbers that I should look for?

    I think my ICM is bad, and it was replaced less than a year ago. The one before that also didn't last more than a couple years.

    My base timing is screwed up somehow. Advanced itself to 16*, and right now will only start if I have it at 20*. runs rough if I retard it down to 10* where it should be. The EST is unplugged while timing.

    Tech / General Engine - test ICM Ignition Control Module - you can take it out and let autozone test it. In my case, the injectors were not pulsing. I had a new ICM. take a test light, ground it, probe both contacts on the injector plug. If you have a steady light, unplug the 4 pin at the base of the ICM and retest....
