  • Smelling Fuel

Alright so Ive been parking my newly assembled lumina in my garage at home as of 3 days ago. My garage just stinks of gas now. Im not getting any puddles or any visible leaks. I even crawled under it at the gas station to see if the filler neck or tank may have an issue. Nothing I can see. I haven't been able to calculate my mileage to see if I have unusually low fuel economy yet as I use my odometer for work, but it seems to be sipping fuel normally. Any ideas out there?

Does this assembly include any engine work involving the removal and installation of fuel injectors/rails? Even new o-rings will sometimes break on assembly.

Yes it did. If an O ring went Id smell fuel strongly? Its overwhelming.

Just in case your Fuel Pressure Regulator internals have failed... pull the small vacuum line attached to the Fuel Rail FPR...and look for any leaking fuel or an even stronger smell of gasoline. If the vacuum line is "wet"... then this might be the culprit. Echoing Azreal... its possible to ding the edges of the EFI O-Rings by not oiling them up B4 re-installing the Fuel Rail. But most of the time... the leaks arise from using the same, old O-Rings...because they often look fine. But over time... the EFI O-Rings will become baked hard and brittle...especially then ones inside LIM insertion points ...and even retain a permanently compressed "flat" edge along their outer circumference ...and all of these conditions will give rise to fuel leaks eventually. Did you replace them with new ones?

I'd put $1 on the injector Orings..

pull the rail and grease them all up (top and bottom) also look for damage to the surface.

            Possible.

OP: Does the engine have a rough idle?

My dohc recently had a STRONG fuel smell and found cyl 1 or 3 was leaking at the injector seal...

Definatly check all connections for wettness front to back but i would be on injector Oring or maybe FPR.. when my FPR failed it flooded my intake manifold so it wouldnt even run and OMG the oil pan was SOOOO full when i drained it... no fun.
