  • Freeze plug size

Does anyone know the exact size of the small oil gallery plug right under the first cam bearing house on the front of the engine (behind the cam sprocket).
Mine doesn't thread in. I don't want to buy a kit and I have no accurate and precise way of measuring it. Thanks

But... if your question is about the size of the Oil Gallery Plug... A call to your local Machine Shop will get a fast answer and the ready parts you require to install a new one. They may suggest that if the engine is on a stand and not buried in the car giving you accessibility problems with tools and motion...etc... that you pack the hole inside with a completely removable length of lint-free cloth (with a glob of grease to stick and hold any loose metal to it and prevent anything from dropping inside the oil galleries) and attach a very strong magnet adjacent to the hole to capture any metal particles outside from contaminating the engine. Then just very, very carefully tap the block with a common thread size for an appropriate replacement Hex Plug slightly larger than your existing Press-In one... keeping in mind of course, that in spite of that sturdy looking boss around the tiny vacant hole in your engine... is just a lot of very lightly sand-casted cast iron that will fracture like your Grandma's Pelvis when she takes a header on a trip across the Black Ice to the Mail Box if you get too enthusiastic with your repair efforts.

After cleaning everything up Spic and Span to get out every last, loose metal particle, coat the outside threads of the New Plug with ARP Thread Sealer (#100-9904 Non-Hardening Sealer) and tighten it to a reasonable level with a Hex Wrench. Please be careful NOT to allow the sealer to get inside the Oil Galleries... It will NEVER harden...It will NEVER break down and it will NEVER, EVER stop plugging up the oil gallery if you allow that sh*t to get inside the motor!

But... If this all works out... You're done! (Of course...I'm hoping you meant Freeze Plugs)
