I am in need of a reputable mechanic in Washington State, preferably the West side of the Cascades, but not gonna be picky for a good mechanic. I need major engine work that I am undertooled and underskilled for. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I live in Everett and I dont think I can drive the 2002 Oldsmobile Silhouette van very far as it smokes horribly. However, I might be able to trailer it for distance travel. The van needs a new short block or engine replacement, whichever is cheaper. I am in the process pricing blocks and engines, but truly need a reputable mechanic to do the work. Whacha think? you up for this one??

These places are local to you...and maybe you can also use the internet to check for the "Angie's List" style of BBB people close by who can steer to a local business with a decent reputation for not ripping off customers. Perhaps you can contract with the "Best of Breed" of Auto Repair Shops in Everett, WA and have a Crate Motor you buy delivered as a drop shipment to the shop of your choice in your own backyard after getting them to agree to a set price for the R&R of the old engine. A good shop will be willing to do it this way. Besides that...you have no guarantee that anyone you find Ad-Hoc online will: (1) know any more about doing this work or admitting to it as honestly as you did, and (2) Guarantee their work for a set time-period/mileage.
Here are the listings right where you live:
Oh... and if you decide on the Crate Motor as a solution...Don't let them put the engine into the vehicle B4 they prime the oil pump and dry oil galleries before cranking the engine over even one time. GM HT Crate Motors and other Long Blocks have a high incidence and susceptibility to failure (over 30%) simply because they dry out in storage or the oil tends to settle out in transport, leaving the oil pumps without any priming to get them started after filling the crankcase.Last edited by 60dgrzbelow0; 10-23-2009, 12:47 AM.

Look on car-part.com for a replacement engine. B4 you install the new engine replace the intake manifold gaskets with the revised metal ones.
