  • Question : Question on installing a gasket with pics

Thank you, people, who helped me to torque rocker arms in the previous thread. I got them torqued perfectly as you have suggested.

Now, it seems like I have to remove the pushrods once again.. Please see the pictures. I am I really this unlucky? Do I need to remove the rods so I can install the gasket by putting pushrods through? On the gasket it says DO NOT CUT. How can I keep the surfaces clean of the gasket for the install then when rods require some lube on install, that is if I have to put the rods through? Do I really have to take rods out now? Something doesn't compute, I cannot be that unlucky..

Second, on the last picture you see that one hole is much smaller than on the other piece of the gasket - the silver port... Not sure which gasket is for the front and which one is for the rear.. My old gaskets look similar but I took them off like 2 weeks ago, I don't remember where that small window goes. Why is it smaller in the first place?

    Thanks.

Take the push rod back out, you have to put the gaskets on first. I mentioned that back on the 21 of june. At least you will have lots of practice setting the valves.

Agreed, DO NOT CUT the gaskets. Take the pushrods out

Well, did that. Recharged a battery and cranked an engine dry for a 20-30 seconds. Seems solid. I did 1.5 turns after the lash as specified in GM master manual. Tomorrow I'll be installing the manifold back on. Freaking gaskets don't want to stay exactly where I want them, is there a way to glue them a bit?

Well they should locate on the dowel pin. Then they should rest on the block ends. If not use a couple dabs to gasket cement on the ends. But use just enough to keep them in place.
