k i wanted to make sure because i went to autozone website and checked the part numbers on the head gasket set and they came up diff numbers. my 3400 is in a venture and i think the 3100 was in a malibu. not sure on that one though

Correct. The head gaskets for a 3100 has a slightly smaller bore diameter. Make sure you use the gaskets that match your block (3400).

wow so that was such a dumb ? for me to ask, i shoulda thought about that lol. thanks for the help man. i just wasnt using my head. ive been fighting this stupid van for almost 3 months. started with warped heads, had them milled and the moron took too much off now i need to replace the heads because my valves will not stay closed.
so the head gasket is the only differance? thanks again man i really appreciate it

If coolant got in the oil, your lifters are probably need to be torn down and cleaned up. Otherwise they have tendency to act like a solid lifter and the valves won't close.

You can take over .020" off the heads, and most shops won't do that unless you ask and I have never seen a head warp that much.

              Or, use a shorter pushrod.

where would i find a shorter pushrod? as for coolant in my oil, i never saw any signs of that. it all went into the exhaust.

Not with stock heads. If there was enough shaved off the heads to warrant shorter pushrods then fine, which may be the case here, but I have to agree with Ben that there is a possability the lifters are retaining water like a woman does that time of month

well, im almost positive there was no water in the oil but for safety sakes, how do you take the lifters apart and clean them?
