  • Average mileage on a new 3400

    Hi all

I just was wondering what everyone with a 3400 gets for mileage. I have an '03 Montana EWB van and can't seem to get over 18 mpg on the highway. I'm from Canada and on the energuide website says I should be getting 35MPG but the economy numbers on www.fueleconomy.gov (in the US) is more accurate at 26MPG. Just wondering why there would be so much of a differance and what everyone else gets???

I only have 7400kms - 4600mi so i don't expect to see the best mileage yet but it's a long way off of 35!!

Usually 110kmh - right on the speed limit here. That would be about 68mph. I was thinking that the ratings must be done at different speeds - probably 90kmh on the Canadian site.....

I believe they measure the economy at 55mph, If it doesnt improve in the van, you're under warranty right?

          yup
55mph is 90kmh so I could see a differance that way then. I was just supprised at the differance between the 2 testing bodies

you should still be in the 20's regardless....I did 80mph from NY to PA and averaged 23mpg including driving thru the city traffic (this is with the 3100, economy ratings near the same) regular ~65mph driving I get 28ish. I assume you calculate your economy by filling up your car every time and dividing distance by volume? Occasionally the dash computers aren't accurate. At any rate if it truly stays that low I'd go see the dealer and they can possibly come up with a solution. Hope this helps any.

Yea i do my own calculations. Turns out that the computer is pretty close in my case - with 2mpg + or -

We're driving to the east coast this week - should have a good idea about mileage after we drive 10,000km

              thanks

We rented a 2003 Impala with the 3400, we put 7000 miles on it and averaged like 28MPG with AC on the whole time... A few tanks we got like 30+MPG.

                I like the 3400's

                  03' 3400 milage worse than 93' 3800 mileage

I just got rid of our 2003 Olds Silhouette w/15000 miles, and still have my old beater 93 Olds Silhouette.

                  the 03 has the 3400
                  the 93 has the 3800

on the same trip, traveled multiple times in both vehicles, driven the same way, I get around 19 MPG in the 03 and 25 MPG in the 93

I've often wondered if I just had a bonk 3400, or if the 3800 is better sized for a vehicle that large at the speed I drive

I drive pretty fast (~80 on the interstate, 70 on the backroads), and the trip is about a 50/50 mix of 4 lane/2 lane rural roads

Well I just got back from the east coast and got an average of 21MPG over 11,000kms

Not what I expected to be getting but what can you do - seems like that's the average most people see.

I got a chance to drive an 03 Montana for a while on a trip to Pontiac, we averaged 13 gallons per 600km, so about 31mpg, thats driving around 75mph.

I get 33MPG with my '95 3100. Our '01 3100 is usually around 29-31MPG. Now, my grandparents just took a trip in their '02 (?) Impala with a 3400. Grandpa got 37MPG on 2 different tanks of gas. Then again, that's my grandfather (54 in a 55, 64 in a 65). Who knows how he drove on the trip!
