  • Cracked L82 3.1 Head

I have a Lumina with a L82 3.1 and a cracked head. I'm wondering if any other engine share compatible heads because a friend has dozens of Ford and Chevy heads, but none for the L82. Any help would be appreciated.

in that case, don't expect anything other than the 93-95 maybe 96 3100 heads to bolt up without some kind of issue.

96(?) and up had roller rockers and didn't clear the intake manifold without grinding a notch for them.

and if you're only looking to replace just the one, thats the only thing you're going to be able to do.

The roller rockers clear the intake just fine. Its the stamped rockers that don't clear the newer style manifolds, and thus require some grinding for them to clear.

            oops.

so since i have 95 3100 heads as well, i can use the roller rockers found on the newer 3100s (96?-up)

let me guess at this too: pushrods need to be custom length?

Pushrods are the same length, they are hardened for the years that use the non-roller rockers though since they use pushrod guides. So if you have guides, keep your hardened rods.

You could put roller rockers onto your 95 head ONLY if your head has notches where the pedestals bolt down. A few 95's did so you might luck out. The notches are for the "tabs" that the roller rockers have to center them since they don't use pushrod guides.
