I finally finished and completed the build of the Newly Designed EFI Cleaning Fuel Rail this evening! I'm glad I opted to go with the Schrader Valve modification rather than use the Brass Barbed/S/S Clamp method of introducing the EFI Cleaner under pressure into the rail. It took a bit of doing...but I finally managed to braze the steel Schrader segment on top of an extra Barbed fitting I had and controlled how much supporting "Ramp" I had at the base that would give it strength and not fill up the threaded top of the unit or invade the interior and well up inside the inner threads and act as a barrier against being able to screw the removed pressure valve back inside after it was cool enough to work with, clean up and re-install the valve.

I am also glad for the admonition by Robertisaar... (Robert) That "Simple... is Best!" as the Final Design more than meets that criteria, albeit with no small amount of R&D in eventually getting to that point in its construction.

I took a short trip up to Dimmit Chevrolet with my New "Brass Piccolo" in hand and got the weirdest looks from the Counterman...until I explained what I was up to. He smiled afterward and looked up some EFI Clip and "BLUE" O-Ring Kits for a 3800 Series GM car and ...Well Whadyaknow? They worked PERFECTLY in holding the EFIs on the New Rail and allowed me to dispense with two hands-full of S/S Clamps and all those mini-pieces of Acrylic Hose that I was using before.

Tomorrow morning... I'll finish mounting this finished item on "The FrankInjector" after giving it a very thorough last cleaning ...inside and out ...and then install some EFIs that have already been "EUMAXED" in the Ultrasound and flush them clean via this rail. Afterward ...I'll be able to do a Flow Balance Test on a Full Set of Six (6) Injectors ...and see how they behave when NOT mounted on the stock GM Fuel Rail. Of course... I'll memorialize the results on video and we'll all see whether this extra effort was worth doing...or not. I would also like to change the "Question" status of this thread to "Answered" since the original problem was trying to find a way to drive all six pintles inside the EFIs during the Ultrasonic Cleaning as well as during the EFI Pressure Cleaning and Flow Balance Tests. That answer has come in the form of having to use one (1) OTC EFI Tester per (3) EFIs and so, in the absence of somebody helping with the circuitry to drive all six in some other controllable electronic manner...the Dual OTCs will have to satisfy. Well... I'm fairly tired now after burning through this part of the build today ...so please take a moment and visit my photo bucket listing below for the Video showing the layout and EFI /Clip installation on the finished rail and the thirty-three (33) new still images of the building of this Final EFI Cleaner-Fuel Rail.

        • The Final Version of The FrankInjector is Finished

          Okay Folks...

I'm not certain as to why it took so long to upload the latest two R&D Videos and Images for the Final Design of "The FrankInjector Machine"...but they can be seen here:

I'm pleased to announce that all went well with the getting the device "Wet" and under pressure... but all my brazing was fine and the New EFI Fuel Rail Design worked perfectly...not one EFI failed to hold pressure! I took some time and put more thought into making the last and final version as simplified and yet, still as practical as possible.

Now... Instead of having to completely remove the Down Drain Acrylic Tubing...it is situated on the back of a small metal screen-like platform mounted on the cross-rail. When the High Pressure EFI Cleaning portion is finished... all one needs to do is simply pull the Acrylic tube ends from all Six (6) EFI Spray Nozzles and the entire drain unit can be rotated out of the way. This procedure only takes a few seconds because with the weight of the Down Piping being supported on the platform...it is NOT necessary to use any S/S Clamps to hold them in place.

I decided to employ a section of the Galvanized Steel Angle Iron that I will recommend for use in making any Main Frame Support for the next system to be built versus using the "Bed Frame" Steel which is much harder to cut and arrange than this lighter gauge material. Besides that...it is easier to cut to length with just a Hacksaw and since it is Pre-Drilled, it makes the bolt-up process a breeze.

The piece I used today for the upper section cross member had to have a small section partially cut out in the middle horizontal area to make room for the Schrader Valve assembly on the New Brass EFI-Fuel Rail. I decided that rather than design anything elaborate in the way of brackets (and for the sake of easy removal should anything be a problem) that using very Heavy Duty Tie Down Straps were more than adequate to hold the New Brass EFI Rail quite firmly in place and not make more work for myself in using anything else that might intefere with the installation and removal of the EFI Sets being cleaned and tested.

I continued with this theme of using the HD Tie Downs to fix the lower cross-member Wire Mesh Platform in place as well. After that... I re-wrapped both of the Three-Wire EFI Harnesses and installed them in a manner that would keep any fluids from getting on them and loosening the black electrical tape wrappings. As for the down drain design, I obtained some new Acrylic Tubing and cut the lengths in such a way as to force the collection Nylon "T" fitting array to curve back against the back of the platform, while inserting the final open spigot out through a hole in the mesh side of the platform where the long Drain Pipe was attached to guide the used EFI Cleaner straight down into the Collection Container.

As you will see from the Videos and Still Images... this latest and last design has all the old Bells and Whistles stripped off of it and now... installing and removing the EFIs from the rail simply involves unsnapping the EFI Electrical Harness Connector; pulling off each Acrylic Drain Tube and rotating the Drain Harness out of the way and lastly... sliding off each of the GM 3800 Retention Clips, freeing the EFIs for easy removal and installation. The two Videos will provide you with all the information necessary to understand how the EFI Pressure Test and Flow Matching Testing turned out.

In closing... Other than creating some simplified "How to Build Your Own Home Made EFI Cleaning Machine" Documentation which will include a Parts Lists and some Step-By-Step Instructions for the build, the only other thing I can think of that might improve this machine would be to design a single EFI Electronic Control Box to actuate all six (6) injectors ...without having to rely upon using two OTC Fuel Injector Testers to accomplish the job.

          That is all, Gentleman....

            • Now that this project is completed... I thought I would kill three birds with one stone by getting a complete Fuel Rail (I can use the Nozzles) a full set of EFIs (yet another set for final testing of the entire system from scratch) and a complete EFI Harness (which I will need for the next FrankInjector build if I decide to do any more). But the object lesson here is that for under $30.00... you can get all of the basics necessary...at least for the most difficult and expensive things needed for this project.

No Problemo, Max! And there is certainly No Rush. Scotty has finally taken a week off to help me rip the old three-four out of his F-Body and I'll be buttoning up the new build block as soon as I finish dressing the heads for 'risers' as well as the sparkplug holes. With some help from my son and little luck...we'll have him back on the road again... God-Willing I don't FUBAR anything. Christ Jesus...I wish I could drop the engine and Xnsmish through the bottom as one unit and not have to mess aroundwith using the 4-Ton Cherry Picker Hoist AND the Tranny Jack to get close enough to the damned Bell Housing Bolts. In the mean time...I'll keep an eye out for your materials to arrive in two or three weeks and then take care of them for you!

                    • A Great Price: Heated UltraSonic Cleaning Machine

For those following this thread who have a serious interest in building their own versions of the machine...with an eye toward spending much less money and time in their own development efforts, I saw something On Sale today that might be of interest to you.

I was in HarborFreight today, getting some things for "The Next Project" I have no choice but to launch into next week and spied a very large capacity (2.5 Liters) ultrasonic machine for only $59.99 that would do nicely for the necessity of performing the ultrasonic cleaning and activation of the EFIs you intend to re-condition as well as possible. The device is useful in cleaning many other engine part cleaning jobs you need to finish:

This piece of equipment will take care of the first difficult portion of deep cleansing the innards of the EFI Sets when used in conjunction with either one or two OTC EFI Tester(s) via submerging either (3) three or six (6) EFIs and activating their pintle valves in the concentrated solution of either "Purple Power" or John's (Forced Firebird) favorite... The concentrated cleaner called "Formula88", available here:

                        • Does anybody know of an outlet local to the Tampa Bay Area that sells this Concentrated Cleaner-De-Greaser called "Formula-88" ? I want to try using this stuff on Max's (tkoforpresident) Rochester Multech EFIs (Should be P/N 17103007...but I'll see when they get here later.)

                          Comment

                          • Okay Max...

Your package arrived today with the new JEGS Fuel Hose Assembly (Much Appreciated!) and the Six (6) Rochester Multech Model# 17103007 Used Fuel Injectors... which will give me the chance to test all of the features on the final design of "The FrankInjector" and thoroughly thrash the machine out against a familiar set of injectors that bear all the earmarks of wear, tear, debris and varnish that 140,000 miles and the roughly 6,634 gallons of gasoline (derived via the formula 140,000/(18+26/2) = 6,364 Gals) passing through them are capable of causing and leaving behind. So the attached closeup "Before" images of this condition will serve later as a basis of comparison for the "After" images to show against as Proof of Concept that the functionality is not a fluke and can definitely be proven and evaluated by the original owner of these EFIs.

Of course before they have been EUMAXed in the Ultrasonic Machine while being activated with the OTC Devices and then mounted and pressure cleaned on "The FrankInjector" for once or as many times as necessary until their spray patterns and Flow Balance Tests improve to a satisfactory degree, I will shoot a "Before" video of their 'out of the bag' current performance to serve as the basis for comparison when they are videotaped after "The FrankInjector" has done its best efforts to revive them. Max... Thanks again for the chance to "experiment" with your set of EFIs... they will be returned in short order...hopefully in shape to meet with your satisfaction. We are having some very bad weather right now which is preventing me from setting up everything in my mandatory "Out-of-Doors" arrangement for the sake of safety... but when the Sun shines once again... I'll wail away on this Project!

                                Okay Max...

I went through as exhaustive and scientific a process as I could devise to be as comprehensive as possible while using your set of Rochester Multech EFIs (17103007) and I faithfully recorded each phase in a sequence of Nine (9) Videos that are memorialized on my Photo-bucket site listed here:

BUT WAIT.... Before you click on the link....you have to know more...

Now even though the last Video I shot will appear as the first available one to view there...it will be very important for your understanding of how all this was done...with a keen eye on searching out the differences in EFI performances between the BEFORE Videos...and the AFTER Videos so you can have a basis for understanding and be able to objectively evaluate the operation and reliability of the test results and procedures used so you can come to an informed decision about whether you think "The FrankInjector" Machine has any value in doing all phases of Electronic Fuel Injector Cleaning. If you merely watch these videos out of order... you will not be able to have a memory of the progression the cleaning of your set of injectors was put through. After you have had the chance to view and review what was done... Please respond to the questions I proffered directly to YOU during the production of many of these Videos. They are listed in order by title MAXEFITEST1 through MAXEFITEST9. That about does it and I will say no more... lest I prejudice your opinion prematurely.

However... I would appreciate some restraint on the part of other forum members from commenting on this latest update... at least until MAX has had at LEAST one try at viewing these videos... since the EFIs used in the test belong to him and he will be directly affected by them after making some decisions for courses of action necessary to take afterward.

Thanks in Advance for your kind attention to this last request...
