Hmm. First change the fuel filter and do a tune up. Make sure base timing is at 10* BTDC. Check out the tire pressure and be sure the brakes are not dragging.

timing is set at 10* btdc and i installed a new fuel filter when i put the new engine 6000km ago. the brakes arn't sticking already tought of that. also i am only getting 8* total advance when you go from idle to full throttle.

Ignition module is probabally toast. Or you have a knock sensor circuit problem.

It is on the back side (nearest the firewall) it is screwed into the water jacket. It could possibly be on the front of the car depending on the model.

Doesn't an 02 sensor failure cause a full rich condition? Do a search online for the 02 sensor operation explanation

almost 17 mpg doesn't sound far from normal for city driving, or maybe I am just used to shit fuel milage. It's an under powered engine pushing a 4 spd auto AND a transfer case! It not a Golf TDI. Are you getting that all of the time even on the highway? Do you still have a cat and an egr pump? Axe those and you will notice a difference
Why pay someone to do the work, it costs alot and you don\'t learn s*^t!!!

17mpg is good for a 2.8 4x4 in a 1st gen s-10.your asking a 90hp engine to move close to 3400 lbs.3600 lbs if you have the stiffened full ladder frame that came with some of the 4x4 packages.
Do u have stock size rims and tires? have you done anygear changes.
