  • 5 speed beretta gt tranny

Will a 5 speed tranny out of a 88 beretta gt 2.8 fit in my 90 lumina 3.1 along with the clutch and pedal and all that mess if i were to swap it? Also would the 3.1 in my 90 lumina go into a 94 corsica 3.1 if i swap the manifold and everything so i dont have gasket problems... The motor in the cosica is shot out... would only repair for just a everyday driver cause everything else is like new on it...Thanks abunch! Also if the 5 speed tranny would not go it would be sold. has about 160,000 and shifts through the gears fine but not positive if its 100%...I would guess its just the motor thats shot... I know some of you would llooovvveee it... Thanks again!

Nothing would bolt up but with enough money/time anything could be made to work.

the 2.8 and 3.1 motors are pretty much the same thing... i would think the tranny would at least bolt up to the motor wouldnt it? I just figured everything else would be alittle more difficult... The lumina z34s came with a 5 speed... just dont think it was till acouple years later... Thanks for your info!

yes, the tranny will bolt right up, but i don't know how well the hydraulics would bolt in, the lumina is a much bigger car, so the lines may be a bit stretched to fit. plus i dont think the clutch setup would bolt in, although i could be wrong.

There was a 282 gegtrag (same as beretta trans) for the luminas but it was 89-90 or something like that on the 3.1 model. It would bolt up to the motor but the axles, possibly mounts, etc would all be wrong. Pedals and all would need to be sourced from a lumina. Later year luminas with the 3.4DOHC got the getrag 284.

The older 3.1.mpfi will not work in a 94 corisca with 3100. The 3100 has a cam sensor and a 2nd crank sensor. It would throw engine codes and might run in limp mode. Plus you'd loose horsepower. The 3x00's LIM leak can be fixed with metal LIM gaskets. It's the way to go.

What you could do however, is take the 3100 and if the cam bearings are good and the cylinders/rings etc are good and it's just the bottom end that is locked up/knocking from coolant in the oil is put the 3.1mpfi bottom end into the 3100. They share the same crank and rods. Pistons are a bit different I think. So you could do that and throw in a metal Felpro/dorman LIM gasket and be rocking again.... Or find a low mileage 3400/3100 and swap it in.
