  • How to Remove Cruise Cable from Bracket?

How do you remove the cruise cable from the bracket on a 2003 Malibu with a 3100 engine? Looking at it, it appears that you need to bend the bottom of the bracket, remove the cable, and then bend it back. I plan on doing a cruise control delete, and everything is straighforward except how to get the cable out.

a pic might help. Probably you just push in two clips and push it out...

X marks the spot. This is where the throttle cable and cruise cable run through. The edge is bent...like it is some sort of safety to keep the cruise and throttle cables from coming out. Unless I am missing something. I just dont' want to go bending unless I am sure...

I really don't remember having to bend anything when I removed mine... mine looks the same as yours. I thought there was a way to like turn them and bring them out or something...

Why delete cruise control? I wish I could get mine to fit... for some reason throttle reaches fine but my cruise control goes into that holder but the actual cable won't reach to where it has to attach on my 65mm throttle body even though I'm using the stock arm and such from my stock throttle body.

I'll see if I can turn it. Why the delete? A couple lbs is a couple lbs. I think I have used my cruise control once since I bought the car...I prefer to have my foot on the pedal.

There is a little pin that sticks in those slots, on the throttle cable its on the front, and on the cruise its on the backside, just carefully pull it back with a screwdriver and it will slide out (they just snap in).

Yup, plastic pin, push it with a screwdriver and slide the cable out the side.

Sorry guys, I was right on this one. I broke the pin after trying several times and it was still jammed in there. I bent bracket straight and it slipped right out. Must be some safety thing they did on newer models in case the pin snapped off. As soon as I bent it straight the cable slid right out. I bent it back in place just in case th throttle cable decides to make a run for it.

Perhaps it was an undocumented feature...
