  • Fuel Leak @ the Fuel Rail

I've had my 3400 in my 95 Beretta for a few weeks now but haven't driven it much. As my mom was driving the car the other day she heard a "whooshing" sound as she described it and saw some smoke from under the hood. She stopped and had the car towed the short distance home. I tore the upper intake and such off today to figure out that it's leaking gas from the injectors/fuel rail. At first it seemed like the injectors weren't seated into the lower intake and it was leaking there. I just removed the injectors and rail as a unit and lubed up the new o rings, replaced the brackets on the rail with some new ones i had sitting around, and put it all back together making sure the injectors were seated in the intake now. Started it up, and fuel is still running everywhere. Seems to be mostly on the passenger side, rear injector. All I can think now is it's leaking where the injector goes into the rail. All o-rings were brand new when the engine was installed and the 3100 injectors, rail, and pressure regulator were used on the 3400. All I can think is the little metal clips holding the injector to the rail aren't keeping it tight enough. Can anybody else think of any other reason it might be leaking fuel right there before I tear into this again? Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Pat

You got the right o-rings in there? You didn't tear any when you installed them the last time I hope.

That's all I can think is maybe one got torn during installation. I only checked the ones in the intake when I had it apart today, now of course I'm regretting that. Guess I'm gonna have to tear into it again tomorrow. They appeared to be the right ones though, looked the same as when I replaced them in the past.

Use lots of oil when installing them.

Injectors have internal seals that can go bad and are not repairable. Depending on the type of injector, fuel can come out from all sorts of places. I usually see injectors with a body leak a couple times a month. I had a set out of a Dodge truck last week that had 3 out of 8 leak.

An external leak is a serious fire hazard, so replace them quickly.
