I been driving my sisters 94 3100V6 grand am for the last little while, and it just decided to sorta crap out on me.
After about 10 mins on the expressway, I get off and it starts puffing a bit of smoke out of the hood while I was idleing. I was just outside of my school parking lot so I just waited it out and parked it there... I checked the bay, and white coolant smelling smoke was coming out of every side of the motor, in moderate to light amounts. I pulled the oil cap out and yes, a decent amount was coming out there too.
So I drove it home, with no coolant overflow cap, without any events, taking a 2 hour break half way during the 20 mile drive. When I stopped half way and at home, there was a decent amount of white smoke coming out from under the oil cap.
I then parked it, and now I just pulled it down to the intake manifold. During teardown, I dumped a tiny puddle of coolant out of the cold side of the EGR, the upper intake, and "injector valley" area outside of the motor. The intake gasket looks fairly new, for sure it was not stock. It seemed that the 8 lim bolts came out a bit easier than they should.... But other than that it looks like it was installed fairly correctly.
So it leaves me to assume that the headgasket is what is giving me issues... Although I never really had issues with pressure in the coolant system, leaking outside the head, power issues, or white smoke out the exhaust in any situation....
