  • oil leak

i have a 99 grand am with the 3.4 with 63,000 miles. and im leaking about a quart every 3,000. i have looked and cant find anything. the driver side of my oil pan is moist but i just wanted to know if anyone has had a oil leak like this. and if your wondering i also am leaking coolent from both sides of my lower intake gaskets and believe it or not my egr valve is leaking fumes under load. I just bought the car used. How common are the problems im having.

thanks, former 3.4dohc owner looking for some reliabilty

Very common. I've owned 3 vechiles with the LA1 (3400) and they have all developed this problem. My latest leak is going to be repaired on my 2003 Montana ( with only 7000 kms) on Monday. GM in Canada is repairing all intake manifold gaskets with a newly designed one at no charge from what I've heard.

    Good luck

Yeah it is definately the lower intake gasket, I own a 3100 and had the same problem, the 3100 and 3400's have an issue with the intake gasket going bad. I was losing a quart a month and I could see a greenish gook where the intake mates with the heads. One thing that sucked for me was 50 miles after replacing the intake manifold gasket my right head gasket blew and I had to tear it down again, I should have changed it when I did the intake gasket because it wasn't much more work. Good luck. Go here for more info if you don't believe it, http://www.gm-v6lemons.com/ , it is a site about the intake gaskets and the dex cool antifreeze.

its nice to come into the forum and notice that im not the only one dealing with this problem.

at first i thought it was the oil pump drive seal on my gfs 3100 in her Grand Prix, but after i tore the upper intake off...i noticed there was a little oil laying around with some coolant hanging off the RTV sealant where the lower intake mates to the block. gonna get some more seals and finish the repair this week.
