  • Fuel rail 7 injectors question on 3.1

I'm replacing the lower intake gasket, leaked water into the block.
Part of the instructions was to remove the fuel rail and injectors but did not say "how".
Anywho, I was able to get the lower intake off with them still attached. Any penalty for doing that?
I wanted to get the manifold hot tanked to get it cleaned up.

Sooooo...how do I get the fuel rail off of the injectors?
    Or....
Skip it and just put it all back together?

    Thanks for ya'lls replys.

I would just skip it and put it all back together, but its really easy. Just pull the rails (with injectors in them) out of the lower intake. Then, there should be a clip on each injector, take those off and the injectors come out. If you take the injectors out you should replace the O-rings, especially the ones that go in the lower intake, and they arent cheap, like $11 for 12 O-rings, IIRC. You will have to give a decent amount of effort to get them out and back in. Getting them in with new O-rings is a little tough. There might be another bracket on top, 4 screws, I think you might have to take off. Its been a while since a 3.1L lower intake apart.

Yes always replace old rings. They are easier to remove if you spray on penetrating lube first. Use some motor oil in the holes when reinstalling. Remove any white corosion before reinstalling.
