Question : Timing chain

2000 Alero LA1 motor, with 99,5xx miles

Is the timing chain OK or should I change it out? Don't know if I have the time for the car to be down. Plus I heard that the bottom end falls apart before the timing chain goes. Usually around 150K

You should be fine for a few more thousand miles. If and when you start doing heavy mods, then you should start thinking about a new timing set. Usually around the 180K mile mark is when it would be a good time to just go ahead and replace it.

lol, the bottom end won't fall apart as long as you don't abuse it and keep up with the oil changes and make sure the LIM gasket isn't leaking.

100K is about the time to replace the chain. Make sure to use the GM chain set.

I have over 280,000KMS on my engine and I just checked the chain and it was fine. However the older chains were more heavy duty. Oh and the bottom end will pretty much last forever if you treat it like you want it to last. It is no different that any other run off the mill push rod motor GM makes.
