  • Bent valve, seat misplaced on 3.1

96 Ciera, 3.1. When diassembling the heads, found a bent valve and it's seat sticking out 1/8 -1/4 inch from it's proper position. Can I just carefully tap it down to where it's supposed to be? What holds the seats in position? Appreciative of any advice. - Scotty

i woudnt because you can do more damage to the head like mess up the valve guide or even crack the head...id just buy a new valve..what holds it into place is the valve spring holding the valve shut..and the seat just seals the combustion chamber...

THe valve seat fell out of the head? If that happened, that's what bent your valve. If you tap it back into the head it will just fall out again and bend the new valve. Either get a good used head or take that one to a engine michine shop and have a new seat pressed in.
