  • oil leaking on my L82 3100

okay....i got a 95 GA GT with the L82 3100/4t60e deal in it. as of just recently i have noticed little quarter sized spots of fluid underneath the front of my car. The spots are kinda right behind my passenger side fog light. U can crawl up underneath the front end and notice that the whole passenger half of car(the side with the pulleys) is covered with oil slick...like its drippin out or whatever while im drivng. Went out there today and the spot isnt quarter sized no more. Is this a bad gasket somwhere?? could the oil pump be shot?? like i said, its on the side by the pulleys, and only on the bottom....no signs of nothin when lookin at it through the hood. when on the ground underneath it....the backside of the driver side wheel is fine...but the backside of the passenger wheel is slicked up. and you can see spots drippin off of the lil plastic guard thing below the front bumper. its hard to explain....the piece that looks like a flimsy ass chin spoiler, yea....and only on the passenger side is where its leaking. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Three possible gasket failures, well 4 maybe... Most common would be the lower intake gasket if it has never been replaced, Next culprit would be the valve cover gaskets, After those two are checked, I would then check the timing cover gasket, and then oil pan or the crank pully seal.

Thats where the oil could be coming from but like I said I would start with the top of the motor being the Lower intake and valve cover gaskets first, those are more common to cause leaks like that.

thanks alot man. i know for a fact that none of the gaskets have been replaced/changed. im gona start checkin on this ASAP. ive noticed my oil gauge goes up pretty damn high when accelerating.....then drops back down to normal when i let off the gas....is that because of this leak issue?? ive never really noticed it before, but im deff noticing it now. but 3400-95.....your the shit, thanks alot man

Oil pressure is supposed to raise with RPM's. That is totally normal, and is a sign of a good working oil system.

Can you get any pictures of the leak? Specifically around the engine/pullies/engine block/etc.

ill try to...but i cant find an exact spot as to where its coming from exactly. like i said, if i lay down in front of my car, i see all kinds of drip spots on the "chin spoiler" and the frame support underneath the radiator. its only on the passenger side of the car as well. driver side....dry as a bone. i was told it was tranny fluid...but i dont know where that would coming from given the fact its around my pulleys. i was under the impresion in was oil related and now im bein told otherrwise. My tranny has been fine...and since ive installed my adjustable vacuum modulator, the tranny has been great. im gonna try to get some pics, but they really wont do no justice considering these drips are like i said, are on my lower front chin spoiler thing and the frame work behind that. ive had about enough of this car and dont want to get rid of it considering all the work ive done to it by myself. All the external mods, interior mods and the full stereo system......all custom work. id hate to see it go but i just cant seem to keep up with whats goes wrong with it next. thanks to all that havehelped and to those ready to lend future advice

There is a tranny cooler inside the radiator, so 2 lines run from the tranny to the passenger side of the radiator. That sounds like a very probable cause right there. Might just be that the seals at those 2 connections are shot, or there is a leaking hose.

I got some hydraulic high pressure hose, some fuel pressure clamps doubled up on each end, and cut the metal crimped sections off with a pipe cutter, and then clamped new hose on. I don't think you can get brand new hoses except from the dealer.

well i finally got a chance to get my hands dirty and find out where this damn fluid is coming from....turns out you guys are right....is is the tranny cooler line running in to the radiator. i got to lookin and its the line on the bottom of the rad....right under the hose combo bundle....i couldnt tell if the bolt/nut was loose because of the senseless 3into 1 radiator hose design....could it be somethin simple as replacing an o-ring?? if it even has one?? or should i take the route mr. issachayes took??

It's likely the crimp on the hose is leaking. IIRC there are no o-rings, it's a flange type connector that you just tighten up metal to metal on the screw part.
