  • I Need Help Now...Engine Doesn't Start

I Had To Rebuild The Engine In My Lumina Since It Drank Like A Gallon of Water (LONG STORY!!!)...
    The Engine Is Now Complete...

It Has Machine Shop Work In The Heads.
Ported & Polish UIM, LIM & Throttle Body. (Matched To Gaskets)
New MAF, MAP, IAT, IAC & TPS Sensors.
    New Lifters.
New Spark Plugs, Wires And Coils.
Compression Is 150 To 160 PSI In Each Cylinder
The Inyectors Are All Activating In Their Order And Have Pressure
The Timming Chain I Inspected But It's Fine And The Car Is in Time.

    Ok Now Here's The Deal...
-As It Tries To Start I Noticed White Smoke Out Back.
    -Then Black Smoke.
-Now I Got It To Start To Like 700 / 800 RPM

    But Here's The Catch...
It Doesn't Start...But It Does Start To The 700 / 800 RPM Mark If I Put My Complete Hand On The MAF Sensor Closing It's Resourse Of Air.

Besides That The Car Doesn't Start...The Engine Cranks Fine But Doesn't Start...If I Push The Pedal To The Metal He Does Like Starting Then Dies, After That It Throws A Backfire.

I've Added A Picture Of The Engine...
Any Help Now??? My Lumina Still Slumbers Thanks To This...

Have you pulled the plugs and tested for spark and to see if any of the plugs are wet? Are you sure of your fuel system pressure? Have you tested your FPR? Tested the coils or ICM or plug wires with an ohm meter? I'll tell you up front that getting bad parts brand new out of the box is not unheard of. That's why they have guarantees. Testing is your friend. Start testing EVERYTHING fuel/ignition related and double check all wiring harness plugs. GL.

IF everything tests out it IS possible you have an ECM failure or an intermittent ground.

Also, if you bought a Haynes manual, I have one for the Beretta/Corsica of all years and the pic they show of the coils mounted on the ICM is UPSIDE DOWN. I noticed it because the coil posts were on the bottom side in the pic and they are on the top side when mounted in my car. My engine is also the '90 3.1 MPFI with the coils/ICM mounted under the front exhaust manifold though. DOUBLE check your plug wires on the coils and make sure.

In your case left to right when standing in front of the engine the plug wires should go 5-2-3-6-4-1 on the coil packs remembering that the left rear cylinder (again standing in front looking at the engine) is #1 , the front left is #2, the middle rear is #3 the front middle is #4 , right rear is #5, and right front is #6.

Crank position sensor might be an issue. Either not hooked up or a bad one will cause a no-start situation.

SuzukiGhostRider - The Plugs Are New And Are Not Wet The Charging System Is Not An Issue, I Have Tested Everything. The Fuel System Is Also Fine, Pressure At The Rail Is Good And I Tested The Fuel Inyectors And All Of Them Are Pulsing Strong And In Order. I Will However Test All New Parts.
Mine's Is A 1999 3100 SFI V6 But The Coils Are In That Exact Order.

bszopi - I Have Though Of That Before...I will Have To Give It a Try...
