  • is it the computer ?????

I sold a 95 sunbird to a freind now it is screwed up. Anyway i went over there and started the car and it idels like crap and if you try to give it any gas the rpms shoot up t 4k to 5k and come down . I cant step on the gas just a little it dose the same thing what ever you do. I put my scan tool on it and it said the map sensor voltage was to hight . So i put a map sensor in it and it dose the same thing. Also when i try to keep it runing its like someone is shouting off the car. And the caty gets red hot .

ps it is a 3.1 Thanks 4 the Help , Don

Red hot cat means WAY too much fuel. Or possibly a bad clog. Check out the ingition system and fuel system. You need to solve that map sensor problem. If you have a vacuum pump you can set the map sensor at a desired voltage. But I think your other problems are causing you map sensor problems. Also inspect the exhaust for clogs.

Yeah, and since he's got the 3.1 he's got a 1991-1994 model Sunbird.

if your cat is glowing, you are probably running lean or out of time. you are more than likely not "getting WAY too much fuel", but rather not eneough.. lean is always hot. out of time would create a real bad idle and crazy erratic revs, along with excessive heat.

The throttel body was leaking. One of the two bolts on the upper plenum holding the throttel body on was broke off. I put a new one on it runs great now.
                Thanks for the input Don
