  • 3100, PLEASE help

I have a 94 GP with the 3100 in it. I have been having problems starting the car recently, which was overcome by turning the key back to the AUX. position or by pushing in on the lock cylinder as I turned the key forward. Didn't happen all the time or with any rhyme or reason, just happened. Now it does nothing. No starter sounds, no fuel pump sounds, no dash lights, dome light goes out and stays out, no radio, nothing. Basically, after trying to turn it over, I lose ALL electrics. I replaced the $100+ ignition no change, checked all fuses, checked both battery cables and cleaned very minor corrosion off, pulled starter off and had checked with solenoid and they worked. I'm thinking possibly C.P.S. or neutral safety switch next. Any help please, I'm 400 miles from home stranded, and need to get home ASAP. Thanx in advance.

well if you are not getting anything out of the car when key is turn forward i would be leaning toward the ignition switch.. It's mounted on top of the steering column.. I believe you already replaced that.. Did you check the under the hood fuses next to the radiator cap and the overflow tank?? The fuses are quite large!! Did you check the AUX terminal for corrosion too?? Hoping i can help ya out..

Yes, I replaced the switch and did check ignition fuses, but wasn't sure if any of the relays had anything to do with it or not. And yes, I checked the Aux terminal, and cleaned it just to be safe

Hmm.. Sounds Strange.. So nothing happens when the key is turned? Its like if there was no battery in the car??

Exactly like that. Nothing what so ever happens except loss of electrics as mentioned before

I'll check the battery out tomorrow, hopefully that does the trick, and thanks for the help. Could it possibly have anything to do with the anti-theft mess?

Are you sure everything was connected properly to the ignition switch? If you have power in any other position of the IGN switch, and everything goes dead when you try to start, I would lean towards that more than anything. Here is a diagram for a 94 Beretta starting circuit, which should be fairly similar to yours...

Okay. A friend of mine just went through what sounds like the EXACT SAME THING.

For him, the NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE was messed up, but what I would do is check to see if your UNDERHOOD ELECTRICAL CENTERS Are even getting power.

The MAXI FUSES should have power at all times.

Pull out 1 or 2 maxifuses, then use a voltmeter, or multimeter to see if you are getting power at all. His Grand Prix was an older one, but it was the PASSENGER SIDE fuse block that was not getting power, and just like yours, he would turn the key on and NOTHING.

Yeah, maybe check the chassis and engine ground wire(s). I remember we had this problem on an old car a long time ago.

I agree. Check to see if you're even getting power to the fuse center. If not, I would also check your ground connection at the chassis/block.
                        EDIT.
LoL, same idea, I took too long to post.
