I have a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme with the L82 V6. I recently had to change the head gaskets, and have been working from a 1999 factory service manual for reference. Now I'm re-assembling the top end, and I've got all the pushrods and rockers in place. But the 1995 rocker arms are different from the 1999 ones. These rocker arms use a ball pivot, not a roller pivot. What's the proper procedure for tightening these down? I checked the "specifications" page on this site, but it states the following:
Rocker Arm Bolt: 89 lb-in +30°
First off, it's a nut I'm trying to tighten, not a bolt. Second, doesn't valve spring pressure get in the way of the torque readings? Do I need to rotate the engine so each valve is seated before torquing? Or do I need to compress the springs before I tighten? 89 lb-in is barely 7.5 lb-ft, that doesn't seem like much to seat the rockers properly.
Thanks,
