That's what mine was.. sure it was simple to fix but it was unreliable and got like 10 MPG. Put down a whopping 320ftlbs to the wheels and 240 WHP after like 3 grand in engine work.

my V6 is making alot more power and i drove about 150 miles on 1/4 tank last weekend.

I've had torque converters that had bolts that weren't tightened down all the way make it sound like a rod knock before now that I think of it...

Its not a loose torque converter either, just checked it and its on tight. Could it be the flywheel?

I've seen a V6 Impala (the old RWD before they were killed style) that had loose bolts that held the flywheel to the crank too. Those ate a hole right through the center of the flywheel so that the old one had to be tossed because it wasn't usable anymore. So it could be. Only one way to find out! I would have thought honking down on the torque converter bolts you would have noticed it though if the flywheel was loose too.

I thought so too. I tried wiggling it and everything to see if it was loose, even looks straight.

I'm about at wits end with this. I though that it is the PS pump since there was a bolt about to fall out, nope. With the AC and PS pump pulled off of the motor it still rattles like hell. It's not the torque converter as it is tight, not sure about the flywheel but I don't think that its that. Its deffinately from the passenger side of the motor. Motor mount maybe? I'm running out of ideas and want this solved soon. Gettin real pissed with it. Anyone else have ideas?

That really sounds like a cracked flywheel / flexplate; or broken damper inside the torque converer. Those can be seemingly random, but yet RPM specific.

The flex plate can crack part-way around and you won't feel it by turning the converter by hand.

I had a torque converter (that I completely destroyed with a turbocharged 60°V6) start making that noise shortly before it died. When it did finally die, it got so hot it burned the paint off, melted the Loctite, and turned the metal blue!

I think that it is the flywheel. A local guy came by and listened ot it and said flywheel. Luckily I have one in my garage. Is the RWD 3.4 flywheel the same? I know it will bolt up but otherwise will work?

                    Yep, should work just fine

make sure you put loctite on all the bolts
