Wow it has been awhile since i posted here. Couldnt log on for the damn longest time. Well i hope all is well. I have a question. On my 3.1 i have roller tipped rockers on. They are the CompCams ones. Stock ratio. With these is it normal to here ticking? Im assuming it is due to the roller tips but im not sure. The tick has always been there. Its not the lifters because you can here it right on the valve covers. Originally when i built the motor i thought they were a little loose, but i just redid all of them when i changed my gaskets and they are all right on. only like two of the rockers move a bit, which i cant help. All were set to zero lash and turned an additional quarter turn. Any input is appreciated.

The rockers adjust themselves when you tighten them down.Robby Whitesell

1/4? No way not enough. If they are stock iron head studs you need to turn them at least 3/4 turn or more. For full preload you can turn 1 1/2 turns If you dont believe me measure the pitch of the threads and then do the calculations.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma

you should be able to get to the nuts, the rockers won't come out without removing the intake manifold on gen-2 3.1's.
I find it surprising that they claim 1/4 turn. Heck, most of the GM manuals list 1 to 1.5 turns to set preload.Brian

Oh yea you can adjust with just the cover removed. Done it several times on FWD cars. You preload will be around .040" with one turn (I believe so I cannot remember the thread pitch anymore) But you want to be between .020" and .060" when fulley adjusted1993 EXT.
