      • these things are retarded high on spark from the factory. if you look through the bins for 00+ it just gets higher.

ill check later and kick it back down to stock if its not already there.

i never realized how high it was at idle until i looked at the scan last night.looking at the old scans its 24-25 at 600-800 rpms

        • Set "EGR_Air_Temp_Disable" to it's max value to disable the EGR. You will get about a 10* drop in timing during cruise and some of that at idle.

          • I honestly have to say if you guys heard this noise you would not think its timing related... This is a straight up lifter issue... Its gotta be. I've heard some ping and detonation before and this is not that... Hell I wouldn't want to drive this car around with the sound its making.

And it still amazes me that I didn't have this issue at all... His cam isn't crazier than mine.

egr has been disabled for liek a year or more. its still on the plenum but i made a little sheet metal gasket to block the hole off.

and for the record i was running the timing thats in the pcm now for well over a year and it sounded fine nor knock except for when it shifted to 2nd gear but thats probably cause of the solid trans mount.

i find it kinda funny that if it is indeed the lifters that it does it with both sets.

the noise is coming from the middle of the engine.

              • Maybe there is just a bolt or nut or something bouncing around inside the engine..

                  • theres definately nothing in the engine.

only had the top end off and no bolts or anything foreign went into the engine.

if there was something in there the engine would have ended quicker than britney spears's career.

I still don't know where my dads 10mm deep dish craftsman socket went.. My engine ate it up I guess during an intake gasket replacement... LOL It was somewhere on the back of the engine last I saw it... I've swapped intakes since then and it never showed up, or fell out of the engine bay.... It's probably resting on top of the trans between the block or oil pan LOL

I had the handle for my tap set fall down in the lifter valley in a 3400 and drop down into the oil pan ounce Luckily the pan had to come off anyways to replace the gasket.

only if she was pre 18 again not now. back then i would have hit that like a screendoor in a hurricane.

sprucegt the egr disable will only help me if i actually drive the car, the way it is now with the noise that wont happen.

                              • I'm too lazy to look back 15 pages but how is your oil pressure?

have you pulled a valve cover and started the engine to verify that there is oil coming through the pushrods?
