    np and thanks

you'd be suprised at the buildup that happens in lifters, the LT1 lifters i took apart had around 100K on them and were filthy and full of crud, i also took apart some older 3400 lifers that had about 30K on them and were pretty nasty as well.

yours should be fine though if the engine has 300 miles on it... mine had 2K and were spotless.

    good luck!

now the engine has more like 7300 miles on it.
i put about 7k on it and changed the oil around 4k everytime german castrol syntehtic 0w30.

Jon took apart one lifter and it looked fine insidie nothing out the ordinary.

the LT1 lifters any different than the 3400 lifters. if i can get something thats a litttle better while its gonna be apart why not right.

ill have to see if i still got tht lifters i took out of the beretta, those things must look like shit. 180k and the inside of the engine was lla black and crap.

i just wish it ran right so i could go get some plates for it and drive it.

i took the 2 springs out of the LT1 lifters and swapped them into my gen3 lifters.. the LT1's are quite a bit taller.

do those make it stiffer dave.

ok went down and did a compression test while i changed the oil on the suabru.

            cyl 1 = 152
            cyl 3 = 160
cyl 5 = battery didnt have enough pep left

            cyl 2= 150
            cyl 4 = 155-158 ish
            cyl 6 = first try 197 second try 189

they all fell within the 150-160 range except cyl #6 which was up there compared to the rest.

i did them all twice except for number 5 which is why the battery died.

Yes, They help out with the higher RPM's as well..

              here are some pics:
stock on the left and LT1/LSx on the right. that's the check valve spring. It holds the ball valve tighter so that the lifter dosen't fully pump up till the upper RPM's, supposedly makes running a large cam easier.

and here are the main springs.. stock on the left and LT1/LSx on the right.. the V8 one is slightly thicker, more coils and taller. it makes the plunger pretty hard to compress by hand unlike the stock spring.

cool maybe ill add that mod to the lifters before they go in, i scored some LT1 lifters from the yard.

thanks for the pic/info dave. just waiting to hear back from ben on the compression check numbers. they all seem to fall in the normal range except the one cylinder. this was a cold compression check btw.

I know I may be a little late here, but my motor had 8,000miles and I finially started it up today and I got that desieling noise that was described. But after a while of it running, it went away.

dont know what to tell you ben. i did it a couple of times on all of them and still on the second time it was still higher.

the noise defiantely didnt go away. the day i made the video it ran for like 5 minutes that day and this was after we primed the engine till the battery on the cordless impact died which was awhile.

the day i made the video was the second time it ran for more than 5 minutes. the first time after we put it back together it ran for about 5 or so minutes and it didnt go away.

this thing sat for 3 months and when i started it up a few weeks before i pulled the egnine it ran fine and was quiet didnt make a single noise.

i checked the gap on all the plugs and regapped where it was needed so there good.

well i got my other lifters all cleaned out and the LT1 springs swapped inside, so there good to go. they had no signs of wear so they should be all set.

the LT1 lifters werent too bad inside, they were actually pretty clean as far as lack of crud buildup. the 3400 lifters had a bunch of heavy dark oil shit in the bottom so they got cleaned out good.
The LT1 engine i got them out of was actually pretty clean inside no sludge or buildup anywhere, i couldnt tell the mileage cause it had a digital dash.

if i get bored today ill go rip into the grand am and swap lifters. havent decided yet.

man i get that itch everytime i walk by my old 3400 block with the ironhead pistons in it, that just happens to be sitting on the stand in front of my car in the garage to build that one up. eh maybe next year or later this year.

Build it up with 3500 heads and throw it in a new beretta! Find a 5spd 93 and swap it in! That LT1 engine must look like mine inside. Clean. I wonder how my lifters look if everything else looks so clean. If this thing ever gives up (not sure it ever will LOL) I'll take it apart. So are you hesitant at putting the new lifters in cause you have a feeling it won't help? LOL Been there, you're like "Great this will fix it!" Then you think, "What if it won't.... I don't want to find out now!!" hehe Good luck!

well its 90% back together with different lifters so next week well find out whether that solves the problem. i was getting hungry and hot so i left.

yeah the LT1 looked pretty damn good inside. pretty easy to work on inside a caprice. hell i think i sat on the radiator support the whole time without moving, my legs were half asleep and pretty stiff when i got up.

if and when i do build the other engine up its getting 3500 heads with the ironhead pistons, and all new parts and another cam probably.

well its back together and it runs now i just gotta bring the idle down. right now its idling at 1500, 1000 would be a little better but its stable and not surging anymore.

still has the sound but i prob didnt let it run long enough only had it running for not even a couple of minutes.

its not as loud as it was before kinda like half as loud. this is with the different lifters with the LT1 springs and totally cleaned out inside.

i know i gotta do something about the fueling it smells kinda rich. but the pcm is prgrammed for the correct IFR for the injectors that are in there and the fuel pressure is where it should be.

im getting about 38-40lbs of oil pressure and i can see the oil flowing into the head so its getting oil.

im gonna try swapping in another set of injectors, and the O2 with a different one.
