  • no one carries the Rear PCV hose? (and t-stat Q)

ok, was doing some maintenance on my DD 3.1 Lumina, and i have to do a thermostat on it (stuck open) and i was trying to pull the intake piping off (probably never been off in 10 years) and ended up having the plastic pcv hose going from right before the TB to the rear head by the ignition module shatter on me (it was a wee bit cold out so....) but as far as i can tell, no auto parts place seems to carry that hose. they have the one going to the PCV valve, but not the one i need. Any idea where i can get this or does anyone have a P/N i can use to get a local place to order it?

Also, is there any EASY way to replace a t-stat on a 96 3.1? Im also wondering how much coolant will spill out when i pull the t-stat housing (if i can get at it). the way it looks to me, i have to pull the TB off to get at the housing and even then, its a wrench job as a socket doesnt look like it will fit between the housing bolts and the crossover pipe.

    btw, thanks in advance

I didn't know you could buy the hose for the front PCV valve anywhere but the dealer. What auto parts store carries it?

I have no idea about the hose to the rear valve cover. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably either cut out the broken part and splice in a rubber hose, or get one at a junkyard. Neither is a good option... but it'd work.

    Have you tried the dealer?

About the thermostat- you'll have to drain the coolant, and a pint or so will still probably spill out when you remove the thermostat housing. As you've probably noticed, the bottom bolt is a PITA to get to... but it can be done without removing the exhaust crossover pipe. I've done it with a crowsfoot wrench, and I think you can get it with a 1/4" swivel.

The PCV hose that runs from the TB to the PCV valve on the front and to a vacuum port on the back? Napa carries that, but it breaks apart pretty easy. Advance carries them as well, and has a better one that doesn't break apart after a year of use. Neither place had to order them for me, if we're talking about the same part.

napa, Advance Auto, and AutoZone both list the front PCV hose, but that is not the one i need...guess ill be looking up a chevy dealer or J-yard.

As for the T-stat, do you have to drain the whole system, or can you pull the upper hose, drain from that and then pull the t-stat housing?

You can do it that way... but you'll probably lose a gallon of coolant, and make a big mess.

I'd use the radiator drain. That's what it's there for.

well, its really warm today so i might try and do it between classes or whatnot. found online that capacity is slightly over 3 gallons, i think my drain pan from advance can hold 3 gallons....
