  • sunbird 3.1 High Nox

    Hi everyone.

I am trying to get my car to pass air care . I pass everything expet for nox. everything else is below average.
I have put a new cat on before i tested it so i know that is working ok.
when i first tested it the nox was at 1900+ ppm.

I put in a extra egr i had around and also checked my plugs. on plug was bad. This time around the nox was the high 1400. so it did improve.

A little history about this car. I Drove the car off a 10 foot bank. that broke a motor mount and bent the control arm. after this it didn't really run good. a few months later it would not stay running, i change the ignition moudue, the temputer sensor because the wire was melted and shorted out, and then i changed the ecm and prom. that finally fixed the issue with it stalling. Also had new plugs at that time.
Then a few months later the heater core blew and i had to replace that. Now sometime i hear a gurgling sound coming from the heater core area. but that just started recently.

Sorry for the long post but if anyone can help me that would be appreciated

Nox is caused by excessive cylinder head temperatures. EGR is the main device used to keep head temperatures down. So even thought you may have replaced it you need to verify that it is working correctly. Also be sure the car is not running hot. Gurgling from the heater core means there is air in the system. If there is air trapped in the cylinder heads you can have severe hot spots causing high Nox. So go over the cooling system

You need the General Lee repair guide. Either Bo or Luke has it.

that makes no sense what so ever. doesnt help him one bit.

try bleeding the coolant system to get the air out.
