  • 84 S-10 2.8L carb problem

Salutation, I have a 1984 S-10 Blazer with a Jasper 2.8L. I bought the truck from my neighbor who had let it sit in his yard for a couple of years with a blown engine. I had the local garage put a rebuilt Jasper 2.8L in it when I purchased the truck back in 2001. It has run good all this time and I've done nothing to it except replace plugs, rotor, disc cap, wires. I don't know how to do much except those things.

Here is my problem. The engine is hard to start. Most of the time it starts right up. But sometimes....it won't start and I have to get out and put a screwdriver in the carb to hold open the choke plate and away I go. Lately though I have to put a screwdriver in the choke plate, start it and it might run fine or it might go 2 miles an hour and then pick up speed and drive fine OR....it will not rev or go, it just idles rough for a minute or two and then stalls.

How can I tell which brand and model carburetor I have? Once I find that information, is there some way to get a manual that tells me all I need to know about getting this thing running again? Is there anything that I can do to fix this? I really love this truck and want to start getting it in great shape again. Getting it running smooth would help....LOL.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Jim

It is a Rochester 2SE carb. It is a good carb and once rebuilt it should run great. If you have had experience with a Quadrajet then this carb will be a no brainer. Do the carb rebuild, reinstall it, set the choke and check for vacuum leaks and I bet you will be on your way.
