  • Oil pump prime CW or CCW ?

    Hello everyone,

Which way to you need to spin the oil pump drive to get some priming action?

    Thanks!!

Is this even required when starting a new engine after a cam install (I used oil on the lobes, and assy lube on the bearings)

    Clockwise.

Yes you should do it on any new build or rebuild.

just dont do it too fast or youll get oil spitting out the hole where you put the oil pump drive in to prime it

I tried w/ my 3/8" air ratchet and it's not fast enough....

I don't have anything that fits in my elec. drill chuck....

Find something at the hdw. store later on.

Chuck up an extension with an 8mm socket. Tape the socket on in case it falls off.

            Good idea with the tape.

            Thanks.

I am glad I posted cause I was about 95% sure you had to spin that thing CCW.

Cant you just turn the engine over with the starter to prime it?

yeah but your still dry running it till the oil flows.

with doing it this way you get oil up in the lifters and everywhere its suppose to be, before you even rotate anything in the engine so when you do actually start the engine in the car oil is where it suppose to be.

i dont know about you but after i spend the time to build it and what not, id go with the drill route.
