  • 1996 Grand Prix SE Issues

the problem i am having is the car runs fine until 10-20 mins into a trip. after that the car starts bucking and sputtering, and feels like there is no power, and it has actually shut off on me twice during its tantrums. this last time it shut off on me i had turned on my turn signal to move over to teh sholder to stop and see if i could find a problem, when i came to the stop, the car was in neutral, and it just died, the right hand turn signal was still lit but no longer blinking, and the battery light came on like it does when its off but ignition is on. all the lights were dim on the dash and head lights looked dim. i went to start it back up, started up with no problem, bucked and sputtered a little more then drove fine for the rest of the 10 min journey home.

now i was told before it sounded like a bad cat, but i dont see that since im having electrical issues with the turn signal stayong in the on mode like that and lights dimming

no check engine light, the car actully even made my laptop restart when it started acting up last night. i was running proscan diags on it till the laptop died.

if anyone has any ideas let me know

just did plugs, wires, and coil packs 3 weeks ago, but it had started acting up before that, did the tune up thinking it might help

    thanx

i know the signal switch is going bad, i will replace that come spring, but that still doesent make sense for this issue because it was flashing like normal till the car died, then the signal went to solid on, and i tried to wiggle it like i would normally do if the switch was acting up, and it just stayed on solid.

Have you checked all of the main ground connections in the engine bay?

check the plug wires again. my old car(wasnt a gm, chrysler lebaron) and my dads van(pontiac transport) did the bucking thing and new plug wires fixed them both.my plug wires had just been replaced, but one turned out to be defective. As for the turn signal, i would have to say that even though it does it when it quits, its probably unrelated and is the flasher relay.
