I just picked up my friends 96 GP SE 3100 he has not done any work to it since the day he got it.. well now i got the car and he has drove it about 4,000 miles with a hesitation and stall in the 1500-3000 rpm range.. The good thing i can throw a scanner on it and find out what it is... brought it to autozone for them to scan a month ago and forgot what the codes were the only thing that came to mind was the IAC and MAF i believe.. today i changed the IAC and cleaned and de-screened the MAF and still the same problems.. Also i think it said misfire on cylinder 2.. Where should i start? Since the Iac was changed should i change the MAF and see what happens? Also the engine has alot of ticking going on from the lifters?? or maybe oil pump worn out and no oil getting up top to oil them and they are worn or loose? something goin on up top though to cause ticking.. (Sounds like a grandfather clock) Also there is no ses light on... Hope you guys can help me out..

The ticking on my 3100 that everyone who heard it said it was the lifters, turned out to be the timing chain. After my cover leaked and I replaced the seal and chain and dampener, it is super quiet. You hear the injectors firing now! I wouldn't worry about the noise.sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

Yes it was a chatter/clicking. It did get quiet after the engine warmed up but did not go away.
Hesitation can be O2 sensor, clogged injectors, or weak spark. Does it miss out?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

Check the plug, wires, and coil pack first, then you can suspect an injector. It helps if you have spare parts lying around to swap to test things out.
I've always wondered how the ECM can tell you which cylinder is missfiring... anyone know?sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

well i replaced the MAF and coil packs off my good running low mileage parts car and this is what it does now.. when cold the car runs great nothing wrong at all then as it warms up about the time when the thermostat opens and gets to normal operating temperature she starts to act up and hesitates when there is about less than half throttle and like no power is there... if more than half throttle she runs great and has all power.... dont understand whats happening here but im going to scan it and see if anything comes up.. lmk what you thinkRobert

If the missfire on cyl 2 is still there then yeah injector it could be. Also if the plugs or wires need replacing do so. Use AC Delco plugs. Do not get those bosch plugs!!!sigpic New 2010 project (click image)

The plugs look dark.. Hmm.
That "sensor" on the coil pack bracket was the evap cansiter purge soleniod lol.
Anyway, Take the vacuum line off the FPR and smell it and see if there is gas in it. Perhaps it's leaky and causing it to run too rich... Other than that a fresh O2 sensor might help but it could *possibly* be the 3/7x CPS.
Also you don't have a vacuum leak do you? Perhaps the LIM gasket is really bad off on it? I'd replace that if you plan to keep the car anyways as you don't want coolant in the oil...sigpic New 2010 project (click image)
