  • TPS went bad??

Hey people , question how do you know that the TPS went bad????

    my car is a 99 alero 3.4 v6.
When the car is at idling the tps voltage is at 0.54 and when WOT the tps voltage is 4.56 is that good or I need to change it?

The guy that is tuning my car told me that it has to be 0 volt at idle and 5 volts at Wot.

thats well in spec, its actualy perfect. tps voltage is a weird thing, different computers want different voltages (for example, a 350tbi is .42 idle, but my cavy is .50-.65). basicly the computer has its own setting for 0% and 100% throttle, and that being the most important part to watch on the scanner.

just fyi: it will never be 0 volts at idle or 5 volts at WOT. this is because at 0 volts a little bit of electrical noise would mess it up and the pcm works on 5 volts refference, and a little drop in refference voltage would cause issues. also keep in mind the way the tps regulates voltage is by sending the remaining voltage to ground, and if you had a 0 volt signal it would be a dead short on the refference voltage.

good explanation, also make sure that when you move it very very slowly from closed to WOT make sure that the voltage seen doesnt blip, or spike, and doesnt ahve any dead spots
