  • strange 2.8 problem

    I have a 86 s-10 4x4 pickup 5 spd stick
    tbi 2.8

The problem is cylinder no 6 is dead. It has spark, It Has compression
Higher compression than all the other cylinders. I was thinking maby collapsed lifter but it doesn't have a bad tick or knock like I would think it would with a collapsed lifter. anyone have a similar problem or any guesses
as to what is going on. Are these engines noted for any problems like this?
my only 2 thoughts are collapsed lifter or bad cam lobe.
thanks in advance for any help.

Dead plug? Bad plug wire? Pull your valve cover and check for the valves opening properly. I don't know about 60V6s but have seen many small blocks with lobes worn off the cam and the valves no longer open.

Agreed. Flat cams do wear out so check that thing. It may be than the intake valve is opening but the exhaust is worn so no air gets out. This would cause high compression but would not let the cylinder scavenge and you would have no intake charge entering the cylinder after an exhaust stroke.
