When this Monte Carlo first showed up it had no probs whatsoever. Then it developed the LIM "leak". After replacing the LIM gasket it made it about 40 Miles when the ECM fuse blew. After replaceing the fuse it made it ~100 miles more, croaked again. This time a whole bunch of stuff was acting goofy. Turn signals didnt work well, ABS and traction system sporadically working, you had to hold the brake down for it to start. After tearing the dash apart, determined that the Ignition switch had died. Replaced that, ran fine for about a week. Now it has died again, no comms with the ECM and Trans computer. All fuses fine, good 12V going to engine computer, other computers(ABS/traction, body) fine. Good ground on engine/body. Now nothing out of the engine, no crank, nothing. What the heck is goin on here???

Wow, thats a lot of stuff going on at once. You say comms with the ecm? Do you mean there is no communication with the PCM and a scan device? My first guess would be to check the wiring harness connector on the fire wall for corrosion or the PCM could be going bad.1999 Grand Prix SE 3100

sounds like grounds or pcm failure.
this is where a fsm would come in handy. youll find flow charts that help you diagnose the problem acuratly. other than that, this is a difficult situation to throw an answer at....3500, 1280 cam and PR, ls6 valve springs, port and polished heads, ported lim, ported uim, 4.3 70mm tb, ported trueleo headers and y pipe ALL FOR SALE (minus the car)

Yea, no comms with the PCM. I use a MODIS from SnapOn that pretty much can handle ANYTHING that i throw at it. But it burped on this one. It pretty much just sits there trying to establish comms with the Engine/Tranny computer then gives up after about 30 seconds........
All the other computers work fine however, no codes out of those guys either.

Well swapping the ECM didnt work. I did however get two codes out of the body computer: Power type mismatch and no class 2 comms. Now the no class 2 comms is self-explanatory, the ECM isnt talking. But im confused about the power mismatch cause I've got power on the Aux, and ignition 1 lines and it says ignition 2 is "low". Its powered but not completely??? A jumper wire to ignition 2 makes it go "high". Is my ignition key messed up??? it brand new, how can this be???

who did the lower intake gasket? Maybe part of the wiring harness is stretched or pinched?Brian

If it were me I'd undo the connectors. Check for bent or misaligned pins, little things like that which will wreak havoc.Brian
