  • Misfires at minimum throttle

    Hey there,
I have a GEN II FWD 2.8 in my 88' 6000. I have been trying to track down a problem with my engine. Whenever I give the car just enough gas to get going from a light, it will start to missfire and hesitate until more gas is given. The car does not seem to missfire once it has gotten up to speed, but I must keep on the gas or else things seem to get shaky from within the engine. I do not know what the problem is, can somebody give me a hint? I am not throwing any engine codes. I have put on a different ignition coil/module assembly along with new wires and plugs, so that is out of the question. Also, I have changed the Idle Air Controller assembly as well. The car has all new fluids (not that it matter but to show I keep it up) and new filters. It has 117,000 miles on it. Does anybody know what is causing this miss?

Does new filters include the fuel filter?

It could be injectors starting to get clogged. Has it done it for more than 1 tank of gas?

Yea that means a fuel filter. The car has been doin it for like a month and a half, it is just really annoying to drive. You have to know exactly how much throttle to give it or it will start to sputter but not stall. If i want to clean my injectors, what would be the easiest way to do it, assuming the STP fuel system cleaner is junk because it probably seems to good to be true.

Can the car be down for a few days? If so, I would say send them off to an injector cleaning service. Turn-around time is usually 24-48 hrs, and it would be so much better than any off-the-shelf cleaner. Basically like having new injectors for a fraction of the cost.

Yea its my beater, I guess I could take off the upper intake and pull the injectors. How much does this process cost? Also, I would obviously need to get an intake gasket since I would be pulling the upper plenum.

I actually might try to do the Sea Foam treatment to the fuel system, and then do another treatment that goes in through the vacuum of the brake booster. I am hesistant because I hear that it will foul the plugs, and I just replaced them.

NO seafoam will not foul plugs. But it WILL clean out your ENTIRE fuel system. I thank that stuff in behalf of my 154k GP running like a top
'93 Sunbird. 5spd, 3.1, it's fast. Oh, and 240k miles has proven lethal against Turbo Talons

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.
