Hey guys, I am having a problem with the ignition system in my 2.8 equipped 88' Pontiac 6000. It developed a miss around 1200-2000 rpms recently without throwing any check engine codes, so I figured the coil pack was the culprit. Rather than replacing it, I first tried to clean each of the coil pack's components. I cleaned them, and reinstalled the coil pack. I hooked up the plug wires and fired the engine. Unfortunately I think I may have mismatched the plug wires and the engine did not run on all cylinders upon the first startup after doing this procedure. In an effort to correct the dead cylinders, I tried to pull one of the plug wires off and switch it with another wire to see if the engine would run correctly. This resulted in a spark (obviously) from my plug wire to the coil pack, thus causing my engine to stall. Now it doesnt matter which way I hook up the wires, the engine will not fire. Is there any way I could have shocked the ICM with the spark and killed it? Also, how are the cylinders numbered in respect to their positions? I know the firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6 but I cannot figure out the cylinder number positions. Please help.
