  • 90 Olds Cutlass Supreme SL - Help pinpoint problem

ok so i have a 90 olds cutlass supreme SL with 3.1L V6 and here are the symptoms.

    - Car hessitates for a second when you step on the gas
    - Car dies in gear when stopped for more then 30 sec after driving

    My tests:
    1. testing the wires in the front of the engine. and they tested in spec
    2. pulled the plugs in front and they were normal and were still in gap speck
    3. Put a timing light on each wire and 1 and 3 mis-spark some and 5 mis-sparks seldom. 2,4,6 are perfect

    ok the coil is like this [1 | 4] [6 | 3] [2 | 5]

Ok so can you give me any ideas?

    Hypothesis:
is something is wrong with the plug wires going to the back of the engine? like maybe leaking spark somewhere? they do look like origional wires....hrmmm

Yea if you are seeing a miss then there is an obvious ignition problem.

The coild and ignition module could both be to blame.

Possibly the last owner never changed the rear plugs? 1,3, and 5 is in the back.

yea, but would this cause the timing light to not light up correctly?

AND to everyone: how can i test the coil paks and what are the specs?

The only test I have involves using a GM scanner. The only other logical way to do it, is replace them with ones known to work before you go buy new ones. All GM coil packs are the same to maybe you could borrow some off people you know.
