  • 3.1 MPFI idle relearn

"the vehicle should be driven at part throttle, under moderate acceleration and idle conditions till normal vehicle operation returns"

how the hell do i moderate idle conditions, sit there with my foot on the pedal holding it where it normally idles?

the battery was out for 2 weeks now its stalling in gear if you leave it without hitting the gas for a couple seconds and seems like it is idling too low

LOL....it may work for a few minutes, but the engine is going to start pulling back spark, fuel, whatever it takes to get back to the preset idle. You may also get a code 33 from it. I've been dealing with that the last week or 2.

Oh yeah the idle relearn I've always done is after resetting the ecm, start the car without touching the gas pedal (may take a few tries) then immediately put it into D with foot on the brake and idle in gear for 7 minutes. Shut it off for 10 seconds, then repeat start and idle procedure for another 3 minutes. Hope this helps.

i'll give that a shot later. i sold the car so im just trying to get that idle cleared up so the guy can drive it and not worry. i forgot about the idle relearn so i took the battery out instead of jumping and let the car charge it. its the first car i've ever had to do it to after having the battery out or computer disconnected. my car had the battery out all winter and it fired right up just fine

Same method I use, always has worked for me. Someone thought my loud ass GP had a cam in it when I cranked it up in the shop @ school and it didn't want to idle.

EDIT: holy shit, brought up an old post, I need to get over to this board more often.
