  • Will an MSD Blaster Ignition work on my 3.1?

And if so, where does it get installed? I have a Blaster Ignition that I was gonna use for a previous project but sold it before I could do so. Now I wanna put it on my GP. How does it install on my car? And would upgrading coilpacks do anything for me?
    Thanks!

I'm lurking occasionaly. It's tough because I'm usually too busy with the Army or my 5.0 Mustang. Which is for sale.

That ignition won't work on a DIS setup. As far as your coils go, just stick with stock as they are just as powerful (if not moreso) than any aftermarket ones out there.

DIS.. I've heard of it, I am not familiar with what it means?
But there isn't any gains to be had with upgraded coilpacks??? I know with LSx series motors there are good gains to be had?

Nope. In fact, the aftermarket coil packs tend to fail much sooner. I know people who havehad the Accel coils fail on them within a few months. If you want to waste money, then go for it, but that would be the only reason to. You will not see any gains at all from them.

Hm. Now this really kicks me in the nutsack. There is nothing I can do ignition wise to help out except wires and plugs? I am kinda stuck if that's the case. I am gonna do the K&N CAI, the 60*v6 retune, new wires and plugs (maybe some seafoam), probably a hi-flow cat.. but what else could I do?

ACDelco's ignition parts are good stuff. The only thing worthwhile upgrading are the sparkplugs, and even that's only neccessary under boosted or high compression setups.

After everything you've mentioned the only other suggestions I have involve digging deep into the engine with head and intake manifold work. Maybe even look into swapping the heads and intakes from the newer 3100/3400's. Or even swap the whole motor with a 3400 and go from there.

I have considered the 3400 swap, but unless I find a turbo 3.1 or a CHEAP 3.4 and someone to do the swap for CHEAP, I wanna keep my 3.1. On my '90, the only "mods" that thing had was an aftermarket chip and 240k miles lol. And a 5spd. But that beast NEVER had problems holding anything off. So I am feeling good about my 3.1
I am intersted in a head or intake swap. Is a 3100 or 3400 head/intake swap direct or what?
