  • i need some help please.....again

yep i need some help again.

saturday my starter went out, so i replaced it.
now on the solenoid it has a big screw on terminal post where all of the fuse links meet there and the positive batt. cable meets too.

then you have the small screw terminal.

so one of the links terminal broke off and i assumed it went to the small screw, which i found it did'nt because when i went to start the car, nothing happened.

so i took off the new starter switched the link on to the other ones put it back in and in the process i broke a sensor...which i though was the knock sensor...which turned out to be the oil pressure sensor.
and now the gauge is stuck @ 80psi when off, and goes up a lil' when the ignition is on or engine running.

i replaed the sensor and still reads the same thing.
so i removed the harness and still read the same thing.

i don't know what the hell happened....

    please help me out

You oil pressure gage has a short to ground somewhere.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

Did you get the short or the long oil pressure sensor? The short is designed for an idiot light only, whereas the long one is designed to run a gauge.

        it's the long one.

oh i don't know if i told you this but the gauge reads 80psi when the key off and reads above 80psi with the key on engine off.

i switched the relay and removed the connector and the car kept running.
i looked at the harness it did'nt look bad...i don't know what the hell happened

this is crazy all i did was change the stater and broke a damn sensor...

okay here's a little update...weird but i think i might have found the problem.

i took off the see thru thingy on the gauges and moved the oil gauge and it stayed...till i started her back up.

so i looked at my chiltons AND haynes manual and seen the tan wire that leaves from the sender to the gauge.

so i followed from the sender and well could'nt get open that big plastic cover but i put two and two together and seen the tan wire that goes in the driver side firewall.

so i cut the tan wire (which was the only one i seen) and the gauge still reads 80psi.

i tried looking on the gauges circuit board but it's like a dual layer so that was kinda hard too.

It could also mean that the new oil pressure sender was bad. I'd take it back and try another if possible. If it comes down to replacing the whole gauge cluster, make sure it's from the V6 model of the car. Some members from grandamownersclub.com have tried swapping the standard clusters with the optional ones and found the ones for the 2.3L didn't work right with a 3.1 and vice versa.

Be careful what wires you cut. Tan wires are also used for the intake air temperature sensor and the O2 sensor. But those are likely going through the firewall on the passenger side.

your right...yea it's not for a sensor the ses light would've been on.

well i did look at the dash and seen something where a set of connectors goes into and it looks like some sorta i dunno.

according to the manual it's a solid state something. lol.
but it looks like it monitors the positions of the gauges when in the danger area then puts on the check gauges light

what i'ma do tomarrow is take my dvom and connect a lead on the tan wire on the gauges and the other end that i cut...if it beeps thats the right wire.
then do the same for the other end for the connector side.

then check to see if the gauge side is getting a high resistance, which i don't think it will.

i don't wanna take the chance of screwing up the new dash

okay...i did'nt think everyone in chitwon whould hold on to there 94-94gagt but damn!

there was only one...and it was a quad 4 auto.
so i could'nt get the gauges.

so i tried to look for the ops too....no luck!
so i broke down and bought a new one...again.
so...i get the switch and though...well if it does'nt (the ops) see oil pressure then it'll read 0 pressure and the switch will cut off the fuel.

                  did'nt do niether!
                  oh man!
                  please help me?
