  • 1996 Gp 3100

I've got a GP SE 3100 with 159000 on it, and while its running, it runs fine. Just today though, it warmed up to 190, whereas its usually just above the 100 mark, if that. I figured it was because of the cold, but now it seems like its pretty warm. It needs a coolant flush worse then any car on the planet, Dexcool has gone to brown pudding and there isnt much in there to begin with, and it gets the flush this weekend. I'm just wondering if the engine would smell like its burning oil and such just due to lack of maintenence. The oil needs changed pretty bad, as does the coolant, as does a water pump and the A/C compressor. Would all that make an engine smell a little like burnt oil and heat up a little?

An engine will smell that way when it's getting too hot. Old nasty oil won't help matters any. I say change the oil and flush the cooling system before this turns into a BIG problem. You'll have a real fight on your hands with that Dex-sludge.

That's the plan, it isnt driven only when I want to drive it, and today I took it out to get the one tire looked at. Turned out to be fine. I have a water pump, A/C compressor bypass pulley, front rotors and pads, 5w30 oil, yellow coolant, and I'll be getting flush too. The heater vent smells kinda rotten, like weird must or something but I think it's got something to do with the dexsludge. Anyways, the maintenance that needs done will get done this weekend after a 30 mile drive as it is.

Just to add to your multiple on-going problems... I'd check and see if that heater core is leaking.

Is your lower intake gasket leaking yet?

Dont let this continue. Flush the dexcool and change the oil asap, else your car WILL overheat and you WILL blow a LIM gasket

I was going relatively fast thru a school zone and was caught. However, I managed to zip into a neighborhood and evade the cop. Could I get additional tickets by trying to run?

I know how trustworthy this engine's LIM gasket is... its had a history of overheating... but the previous owners just kinda drove it as it sat. I'm assuming it was in a little better shape before because it sat for a year and here I am with my $180 dollar car. How hard is it to replace those gaskets and how much do they run?
